A romancista e contista americana ELIZABETH STROUT nasceu em 1956 em Portland, Maine, e cresceu em Durham, New Hampshire. Filha de professores e formada em direito, publicou seu primeiro livro, Amy and Isabelle, em 1998. Finalista do PEN/Faulkner Award e do Orange Prize, seu romance Olive Kitteridge (prêmio Pulitzer de ficção em 2009) foi adaptado para a televisão com Frances McDormand no papel principal. Dela a Companhia das Letras publicou também Meu nome é Lucy Barton. Strout mora em Nova York e ensina humanidades e escrita criativa em universidades americanas.
