Melville, Herman
HERMAN MELVILLE, nascido em Nova York em 1819 e falecido na mesma cidade em 1891, foi um escritor norte-americano que, apesar de incompreendido em sua época, é hoje considerado um dos maiores escritores de língua inglesa. De família humilde, Melville teve uma vida de aventuras, trabalhando em diversos empregos, incluindo marujo em um navio mercante e baleeiro. Suas experiências de viagem, especialmente no Pacífico, serviram de inspiração para seus livros, como "Typee" e "Omoo". Embora seu romance mais ambicioso, "Moby Dick", não tenha recebido grande destaque em sua época, ele é agora considerado uma obra-prima da literatura.
