Mentor and guide to the Lost Generation of expatriate American writers, including Hemingway and Fitzgerald, Gertrude Stein (1874-1946) is perhaps better known for her Parisian salon than her literary works. Stein, Gertrude
Gertrude Stein que nasceu nos EUA em 1874, escreveu poesia, ficção (romances e retratos) e peças de teatro. É uma autora conhecida por ter assimilado, na sua escrita, as características do Modernismo. Ela estudou Medicina, Psicologia e Filosofia na juventude; em 1903 mudou-se para Paris onde viveu até o fim de sua vida, em 1946. Em sua casa, que foi um importante centro de discussão sobre as artes, se reuniam grandes figuras como Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Ermest Hemingway e Ezra Pound. Nome fundamental para o desenvolvimento da literatura moderna, Stein escreveu inúmeros livros, entre os quais Três Vidas, A autobiografia de Alice B. Toklas e, por essa editora, Para fazer um livro de alfabetos e aniversários. |
