Martin Heidegger (1889-1976) filósofo alemão, cujas concepções filosóficas sofreram influências de Sócrates, da filosofia de Platão e de Aristóteles, dos gnósticos e de diversos filósofos do século XIX e do início do século XX, principalmente de Søren Kierkegaard e de Friedrich Nietzsche e Wilhelm Dilthey, bem como do seu mestre e fundador da fenomenologia, Edmund Husserl. Em 1927, surpreendeu o mundo filosófico alemão com, Sein und Zeit (Ser e tempo). Por sua vez, Heidegger influenciou fortemente Jean-Paul Sartre, na França, e outros existencialistas.
